These are the structures which have been incorporated into garden design from ancient times to provide shade and shelter and are also features of romance.

10.30: Linda Farrar will talk on Roman pergolas dating back to 80 BC. Linda is an expert on Roman gardens and her publication Ancient Roman Gardens was reprinted in 2011.
11.30: Dr Jan Woudstra will talk on bowers, berceaux and cradle walks. Jan’s projects include the restoration of the Privy garden, Hampton Court and the gardens at Chiswick House. Jan is also engaged at Het Loo Palace in the Netherlands and has published widely including 'The design of the Privy Garden at Hampton Court’.
2.00: Troy Smith, Head gardener of the National Trust’s Bodnant Garden will give a talk on Bodnant Garden.
Troy's talk is followed by a guided tour of the garden which is always stunning with rhododendrons and azaleas in the spring.
